At around $10 for 15 coins, it's a reasonable price at the moment, even if most of them turn out to be slugs.

Do you have much experience with cleaning ancient coins?

No I honestly don't know a thing about the coins but I read a lot of books about the roman empire and have always ben interested in it. More so the Byzantine empire but Imperial Rome as well.

i just think having a few roman coins would be nice. It would be a good addition to my collection.

Your going to have your work cut out to clean them, it's going to take sometime. I think you might be a little disappointed with the results. I would look for some that have at least been lightly cleaned, this way you can see what your getting when the work is done.

with echizento, I was going to do the very same thing so I bought one coin for $2.00 and it had more details showing. To make a long story short after 7 months with following all the proper methods of cleaning, the only thing I found is that I did not make much progress and lost interest in continuing the cleaning. Good luck with your venture....

You can buy single Byzantine coins that are recognizable for $15. Maybe that would be a better alternative for you. At least you know what you are getting.

I think I will wait and spend a little more money for one I will be happy with. I don't want to take a chance.

This discussion is almost moot, as the listing has been removed.

I partially agree with echizento; if I were starting, I'd purchase at least one properly-cleaned Roman and a lot of 10-20 "cleaners" to work on. I've purchased several Roman "cleaner" lots from the ebay seller "oldcoinman", from Texas, and I've never been disappointed. Yes, the cleaning can take some time, so if you're the type that honks at other motorists, tailgates, and uses harsh language in slow traffic, ancient coin cleaning isn't for you. But if you can stick with it, you'll be rewarded, and even if you overclean (as I did on my first one or two Romans), you won't have lost much.
