Ok , well a little insight here will be nice.. I do not collect US coins, but had to purchase this one....

Found this coin at a Flea market in Quebec Canada a few years back... This guy had a ton of Canadian and US coins... Why did I buy it...

First of all from what I knew there was never s Copper US dollar. I figured it was a fake so I bought it just to get it off the market..Yes I also looked at all his other stuff which all looked to be good stuff..

Now please give me your thoughts , because now that I know more about US coins, I would have to say this is the worst fake probably ever made..The weight is 26.5 grams and the color is mostly copper like red cents...

If any of you serious collectors want this coin for show or educational purposes PM me and its yours...It is not for sale, it is to give ..I dont mind losing the cash I paid for it as long as it will help to maybe educate others ( new collectors )

Wow, gotta agree, it's the worst counterfeit I've seen in my short time in the hobby.

On a positive note, I think your coin is better than .900 fine (copper)

hey DV, I think your right about the .990 copper..Too funny..
Lets say I paid less than a C note but more than a dime.....Actually got it off the guy for under 20 bucks.. It was worth every cent to get it off the market...

So anybody want to show it at a coin club>?>? I'm sure some people would get a chuckle, I know I did

Diagnostics for an authentic 1877 involve the combination of obverse 2 and reverse 2. Obv 2- ends of scroll point downward, hand has four fingers. Rev 2- without extra berry under talon, arrowhead ends over 2.

The reverse certainly does not match but I cannot see enough of the obv detail. Since the rev does not match, it is almost certainly counterfeit.
