20 KREUZER 1868 AUSTRIA-HUNGARY EMPIRE - FRANZ-JOSEPH 1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:IT

It's the first single coin I bought without doing any research and I think I got taken. The only one I can find that looks like it is silver and this doesn't look like it's silver. I didn't care if it's silver or not but I think it might be a fake.

MrGlass44- Well, that coin certainly does look to either have a gold toning, or the picture just makes the coin look like that. The pictures are small and somewhat grainy. At this point I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that it is fake. Just wait until you get it in hand. I for one would be curious to know the verdict.

Well as soon as I get it I'll post some pics of it and hopefully I'll figure it out. I hope it's real even if it's not silver. I'm half Hungarian so it would be a nice addition.

The 1868 20 kreuzer is .500 fine silver; .500 fine coins can look either silvery or coppery, depending on what sort of conditions they've been kept in or how it's been treated. I suspect this coin has been cleaned, making it turn a strange colour; $1.25 is a reasonable price for this coin (it contains 76¢ worth of silver at current prices).

I wish some of my mistakes only cost that much! I sent 100 times that much to Savannah, Georgia for nothing.

So even if it is fake, it's a cheap lesson. I would take heart from the fact the seller has 100% feedback with over 2500 so far.

well if you got it from Hubert I can almost guaranty its real.... I had a few of those and it appears to have been harshly cleaned .. Depending on how it was scanned or pic, with lighting it can at times have that same appearance.......Just wait until you get it......

For this little amount of money spent it would be nothing to cry over even if it were fake!
