Were any proof War Nickels ever minted? If there were how would one identify it? Also, how is a proof coin identified that was minted when San Francisco minted coins for circulation. I think it has something to do with small/large lettering on dates. I really don't know? Can you help?

I looked in the Red Book and it lists a proof in 1942P.
