A few years ago, I sold something and was depositing my money at the bank. The lady came to me and said that some of the notes were fake. They even passed the Marker test, which was the only thing I did. It was $120. The bank still deposited the funds in my account, but I had to fill out a report for them.

Is this a common occurance? I was in highschool then and the amount was very little, but now, I deal with more money, tuition alone is $40,000 a month.

Is there any quick way of testing if something is fake or real?

The markers are bunk and can be fooled, it is only a starch test. The best foolproof method is to use the inherent features of the security strips. Each denomination has a strip in a different position and each strip fluoresces a different color.

That sounds good, but that could take forever. I exchange lots of cash, everyday.

Is there any quicker way?

Get really familiar with what real money looks like. If you know the process of how it is made and what the security features on the bills are you can spot counterfits unless they are really, really, really good ones.

Not sure, I was in highschool and was at a bank depositing the money. They never told my why they thought it was fake. They just said they were not real.
