I got this in some change when I was supposed to receive a quarter. What exactly is it and what is its value?

Alas, 100 Korean won is equivalent to 9 us cents at the moment... so you didn't get your "money's worth" on this one.

The weight and size is very close to a US quarter--someone could be fooling vending machines.

It's worth perhaps almost 9 cents based on the official rate of exchange. No telling what it's worth on the black market, perhaps less?

There isn't a "black market" in exchanging South Korean coins. Methinks perhaps you're confusing them with North Korea?

It's the kind of coin you'll find in a typical coin dealer's "three for $1" scratchtray.

From what I read online even South Korea's money has a black market. I bought some Venezuelan Bolivars not too long ago and got ripped off not realizing the official rate is in fact anything BUT. The black market is the real price of what your money is worth for spending purposes. I have some Myanmar Kyats, you should see the difference between the official and black market prices. The government values 1000 Kyats to be worth $156 U.S. but in reality it is worth only 95 cents. Friendly place to do business don't you think?
