Can someone please tell me why the Dolley Madison silver dollar Commemorative proof has a Philadelphia mint mark and not a San Francisco mint mark ? I thought all proof coins came from San Francisco or West Point. I have always liked this commemorative so yesterday I bought the proof and uncirculated set both coins. They are beautiful just surprised to see the Philadelphia mint mark.
It's true that Proof Sets of circulating coins are produced by the San Francisco Mint exclusively (since 1968). Philadelphia, Denver and West Point produce Proofs of non-circulating issues.
