Ages ago I rescued these two guys from a junk silver box that was about to be shipped off to the melting pot. Since all coins of this type are not exactly common, I felt that they needed saving. The 1873Zs is quite worn, but more or less problem-free. The 1880s Ho, on the other hand, is not as worn, but definitely has a notable defect. The entire edge has been shaved off. So no edge reeding remains. When looking at it, it is obvious that someone more or less clipped (scraped) the reeding off without actually making it obvious when viewing it from the obverse or the reverse. So what do you guys make of these? Also, since this coin type is known for its varieties, are any detected?

Sorry that the scan of the edge is so blurry, but that is about as good of a shot as I can get with my scanner.

I'd grade them at G-4 and VG-8.

echizento- Thanks for the input. So is the grade of the 1880 a net grade or did you not factor in the fact that the edge reeding has all been scraped away. (In fact, I just weighed it and it is actually .35 grams lighter than the more heavily worn 1873. That certainly indicates that some material was skived.
