1701 Liard De France, What's It Worth?

Is it any clearer in hand? France had a couple dozen mints, it could be just about any letter of the alphabet. I think I can see an "A", which would be Paris mint. Can you confirm? Sap Moderator Australia 16873 Posts	Posted 10/17/2009 06:04 am Let's see. The date appears to be "1701"; that would make it KM# 284.1, with a catalogue value (2002 edition) of $18 in VG. I'd grade this coin quite a bit below VG; I'd call it a $5 to $10 coin. Unfortunately, mintage figures for pre-Revolutionary French coins are patchy at best. No mintage is reported in Krause for this coin; mintages for similar coins from other dates and mints typically range from 100,000 to over a million, but given the turbulent history of France in the 300 years since this coin was struck, mintage figures are a poor indicator of relative scarcity anyway.
