I just read an article today. The article was about how the US mint through a joint effort with Walt Disney World, intends to introduce the Dollar Coin through their various kiosks and shops in the park. I think its interesting once I read the statement below.

"Our participation in the circulation pilot is part of a continued commitment to environmentality," states Thomas Smith (Social Media Director, Disney Parks) in the official blog about the launch of the program. "The coin is an environmentally responsible choice - it's recyclable and lasts decades longer than paper bills."

The Mint intends to prove that the dollar coin could be economical, as well as environmentally sound.

I never knew the Sac was Going Green?

Maybe the reverse will change in a few years to include some of WDW's monuments like Space Mountain, Epcot Center, and Pirates of the Caribbean?

That's certainly one of the arguments in favor of larger coin denominations. Once they're made, they stay made for a long long time. Paper bills may be cheaper to make each but the coin only has to be made once rather than every year or two. I assume the "carbon footprint" woulod be around the same. I don't have any facts but I could easily see how a coin would be greener in the long run.

I'm waiting for the $5, $10 and larger coins with all the vise presidents and their wives and other relatives on them. I really want to get rid of all this easily usable paper bills and replace them with nice coins that are all the size of a quarter.

I'm sure it could be a mess. Look what happened to ball parks. I can just imagine the rush to get the first Alexander Graham Bell $2 coin with the AT&T reverse.

Another argument: The Morgan dollar in its day was equivalent to a $20
note in today's money, thus it had real purchasing power.
Carrying a 38mm coin makes more sense when you have $20 worth of
(modern) purchasing power with just that one coin!
IE: You and your family could all eat a fast food dinner by your
spending only one coin (or two, for a larger family).
You could get a hotel room for the evening with two coins.
Buy a basic DVD player with two coins.
You get the idea....
