Anyone know the history behind this coin? The design was only produced for two years as I remember reading in an old Spanish coin book.

I picked one up a little while back for...I think about $13.

Are these subject to fakes?

harrison2- Very interesting type of coins. I must admit that I am no expert of these. Regarding whether they are counterfeited: all coins are targeted. In fact, even in the US there have been counterfeit SBA and Sacagawea dollars found in circulation. If it exists, someone somewhere at some time has counterfeited it (or at least has tried to).
