Hi, I just bought this at US$40.00 and am still wondering wether I shouldve haggled for less, or was it at an acceptable level for the coin?. an 1873 Belgium, Leopold II, 90% silver, 25gram coin at 38mm diameter. Thank you and please, any info on it's circulation number and rarity is appreciated.

From what I can see I would grade this at EF, I can't tell if it's position A or B. Only a $10 difference in value between the both. Krause lists value in EF condition at $25 for A and $35 for B. You might have gotten it a little cheaper, but overall you didn't do too bad. A nice silver coin.

I think you could have haggled. I recently bought this coin in mint state (probably MS-61 or 62) for less than $20. I have another in VF35 which I got for $8 two years ago. I see them for sale quite often. But then again - they might be harder to get hold of outside Europe.

Great coin. I have a lot of coins from Belgium, and get everyone I can, and I have never seen that one.

Krause lists a little over 22 million for the mintage, value in inc. is either $60 or $100 depending on if it is position A or B. Unfortuntely I don't collect Belgium so have no idea what the position means.
