This is obviously a problematic coin for people to identify, besides all the obvious pup's, if the 9 has points at both ends, it is unquestionably a small date coin, forget all the other pup's, just my opinion, after much research into this variety, I found this to be a fact....ps, All large dates as you can tell by this pup.....

I have three BU rolls of 70s Lincolns to look through ....... and am waiting to do so until I learn enough to tell the difference for sure between large date and small date.

One 'lesson' that I remember from the forum is that you can draw an imaginary line between the top of the '9' and the top of the '0' ...... and in the small date variety the '7' is co-linear with this line.

These photos show the '7' well below this imaginary line ......

Sooooo ... am I seeing this correct? Is this a proper tool to use to distinguish between large date and small date?

You can use the line method, but using the inside tail of the 9 is a little easier in my opinion. If it's pointed it's a small date.
