Not to worry Joe. I am notoriously excitable when typing at my keyboard. One would swear upon reading many of my posts that I type with my toes so I don't have to set down the coin I am working with.

I wouldn't get too hung up on perfect grammar, but overboard with slang and extremely long sentences can just give someone a headache.

As for die varieties.

Varieties are basically combinations of known dies that are matched in different pairs into known examples. Markers and sometimes singular tiny stray elements of a design can result in hundreds of combination variations. Some series of coins have so many dies that it is difficult to track them all down. The major variations are tracked but certainly not EVERY combination has been logged yet.

There just is not enough significance to justify someone making it their life's work to catalog coins with mintage numbers reaching into the BILLIONS. Cataloging and properly identifying markers is very tedious and monotonous work. Not to mention an enormous task. Some of them might never be known.

A variety is a planned change....such as the 1960 Large date and Small date cents.

A die variety is linked back to a particular die such as the 1955 DDO cent.

The previous post was on the right track but it appears to confuse Variety and Die Variety to a slight degree.

Positions of mintmarks can vary wildly on coins prior to 1990. They were punched into the dies by hand.
