Nice! I've been grabbing up all the Ikes I can lately hoping to find some silver but no luck.

The only " Silver" ones "I" have are in Proof Sets. They were gifted to me......and I've certainly "bought" a few clads and, now that I think about it, even a few "circulated" silver clads in recent years......but in ALL of my "silver huntin'" adventures, I've NEVER come across Ike's for face value !.....much less silver ones ! I, sadly, have the great and utterly horrorible misfortune, of having "coin collectors" that WORK AT MY BANKS ! So CONGRATS TO YOU !

Excellent find numismo! Silver ikes in circulation are very hard to come by. The only two silver ikes I've found were 2 1974's from another tellers tray when I was working at tdbank. I sent one of them in for grading to anacs and it came back ms67. I think I might try to order a bag of ikes and see if I can pull any silver out of them. Theoretically all modern silver dollar commems, all old silver dollars, and silver ikes should be able to be found in a bag of ikes. Happy Hunting- XoG

Thanks all. By the way Xavier, how many dollar coins in a bag and how do you know they wouldn't all be new prexies?

Very cool find! Makes me wish I'd saved the ones my Dad used to give me when I was a kid, but let's face it, in the early 70's, a buck bought a lot of ice cream and candy bars!

Quote: I think I might try to order a bag of ikes and see if I can pull any silver out of them Good luck with that XOG. Seems to me that other members here have tried to get their banks to order them (I too have tried). Apparently the Fed still has them but nobody can seem to get them ordered.

"Good luck with that XOG. Seems to me that other members here have tried to get their banks to order them (I too have tried). Very true, They are very hard to get from banks. and impossible to order from the FED which makes me wonder why would the FED not give them out when requested they do EVERYTHING else. One thought that pops in my head is,are they saving them for a G.S.A. Type sale like the Morgans back in the day. They are a 30+ year old coin, The Last of the Large Dollars. Then again this thought might just be me not quite awake yet this morning. Maybe more Coffee will Help

Or the fed actually does not have any and the rumors are false?

Good find! I have lucked out a couple times on Ikes. Best find was ten silvers from a teller. She had a bag of forty Ikes. She counted them out to me and said "they look like silver". I said "I'll take them all" and quickly scooped them up. Nothing there that would grade out at MS67 though. There was the 1973-s. I am still looking for the other 1973 coins to complete my Ike folder. Picture includes a Capped Bust half that another teller handed me that day. Maine_Jim

"Or the fed actually does not have any and the rumors are false?" Nod2003,
Now that would be great that would mean all of them that are left after the Great Melt of 1980 would be what is out there now.
