The 1787 sede vacante taler is a one year type taler issued by the German state of Regensburg to commemorate the death of the bishop. These pieces are often called "sede vacante" talers which literally means "empty seat". The 1787 Regensburg taler was struck to commemorate the death of Anton Ignaz Reichsgraf von Fugger-Glött, who was appointed from 1769 to 1787.
The history of Regensburg is fascinating in itself. While I have never visited personally, I understand that it is a cultural center of southern Germany. There is historical evidence that the city has been settled well before the time of the Romans, dating back to the stone age.
Thanks much Zohar. My new PC is missing all the photo software like photoshop, so I am at the mercy of one of the generic photo manipulation tools. It is poor at best.
