I finally made my way to the bank and picked up a box of nice new shiny pennies. Comes complete with mint seal, but the bank would not let me have it without breaking the seal to check its' contents.

One of the rolls has an anomaly, and I was wondering if anyone might have an idea what it is. How about an opinion on whether I should open this roll. I have a few other single rolls which I can replace it with, and I am real curious, but I wanted to see what the experts here think.

Well, that's what I did. I opened it and found the oddest Red/Brown I've ever seen. Only the rim is brown.

But the penny is new. Those scratches on it have me curious though. Seems a bit much damage for straight out of the mint. I was expecting something a bit cleaner than that.
