Ya, the mint sent out an email advertising it.

I really do not see what's so special about it and why it costs $295.

Maybe I'm missing something here?

Hmm...is there a built in pen or lighter? That could be cool.
Not to disrespect the Olympics, but that's a stretch for the RCM.

I don't see how this fits in with the mint and coin collecting as mentioned in previous post more junk I'd rather have the real one.

Refreshing to see moderators taking appropriate actions once in a while on this forum.

The Royal Canadian Mint does issue collectible items that are extravagant, far fetched maybe, even outrageously shaped at times... and certainly outside the realm of your typical pocket change coin collection. But the craftsmanship and quality are outstanding; some creations are truly awe inspiring. Whether you think they are worth collecting is a moot point. Because they keep producing, it would appear a few collectors value and continue to buy their products.

In the end though, it's all about having a respectful discussion about what we all appreciate: numismatics.

Let's keep this in mind. Calling one's collection JUNK will probably not enhance our own.

This could come in really handy when you get an itchy spot on your back and you can't quite reach it with your fingers.

Congratulations...in your own little way and through these comments you have just questioned the ability and committment of the sites moderators, the integrity of the forum in general, and at the same time are inadvertently suggesting some type of censorship with peoples opinions.

Wrong, wrong wrong,...I welcome peoples honest opinions as it gives me an opportunity to gauge the subject matter completely.

That being said, I feel this item from the RCM is not coin related so its open game for honest discussion anyway. In the mint's quest to continue to capitalize on our Olympics, they have really stepped outside the box. I kind of draw the line after the watches pendents and other novelty jewelery that they sell.
Quite frankly this is something that one would expect to be able to buy in a cheesy gift shop at some Canadian airport. Plain and simple.

I think it was the four letter acronym in the the original title that got censored,we are still free to call this item what it is,JUNK.The mint has a mandate to supply us with coins, circulating and commemorative, whether we like the designs or not and is free to mint as many NCLT giftware coins as the market will bear. This thing is not coin related at all the mint has overstepped a boundary.
