to the ccf forum.. Almost looks like a bottle cap design of some sort.. I am not sure if this is a coin assuming that the other side is blank. I am stumped but am sure the experts will be able to help you...

This is an Ethiopian coin, 25 cents. The date on the coin is Ethiopian Era 1936. The conversion formula to AD date is AD = EE + 8. So, it is supposed to be AD 1944. But actual years of issue of these coins were 1952 and 53. In 1952 they minted 25 cents with plain (circular) edge but then withdrew the whole issue and replaced it with this "funky" edge.

I know this is an old post but I had a question. I have this coin and it is in an older flip and is marked 1936. I checked Ken's site and it shows the Km# 36 (1944) but no pic. of the Km# 35 (1936) There is a considerable value difference in the two so I wanted to know what the Km# 35 looked like. Does anyone have a pic. of it ?

KM# 35 is round, like a "normal" coin, very much resembling the other denominations such as KM# 34. KM# 36 has the scalloped indentations around the edge which you can clearly see on the pic in the OP. Both KM# 35 and 36 are dated EE 1936, which converts to AD 1944. Both were actually issued in 1952. KM# 35 was issued first, then withdrawn and replaced with the scalloped version - presumably because it was almost exactly the same size as the 50 cents (KM# 37) and so could be either plated and passed as50 cents or slipped into a roll (I don;t know if rolling coins was practised in Ethiopia back then).

Thanks. Nice pics. also. Still looking for a pic. of the round 25 cent (Km# 35) I'm going to assume it looks just the same but round and not scalloped. or maybe not ?
