I am going to look at a 1000 dollar bill tomorrow that is an AU Star note. Don't know the specifications though. Is the note still worth face?

It would be worth at least face value. Are you going to post a pix if you buy it? Let us know what happens,o.k.? John1

Sure, but what I'm asking is can I still exchange it for $1000 at the bank.(Hypothetically of course!)

Exchanging it at a bank would probably be one of the worst things you could do with it(other than using it to light a nice Arturo Fuente ). A $1000 note is worth considerably more than face even in a raggy condition and the bank would do one of two things with it- an employee would purchase it for face and make a nice profit in the process or the bank would send it back to the Fed for destruction

Thanks. I never would turn something like that to a bank. I just like knowing that it does have face value still.

Hopefully you will be able to tell if it's genuine. Lot of funny paper around now and back then when this denomination was in its prime.

What should be some tell tale features that I should be suspicious of with this type of note. Paper weight, quality, inks?

Engraving quality would probably be one.

So did you buy the note? If so, I too would be interested in seeing a picture of it. A star note is extremely rare in any condition, and in AU, I would estimate a minimum of 5 times face value would cause the note to disappear rather quickly. Even this 1928 rag that I show you here is worth a considerable premium over face value.

Unfortunately no. The person told me they would hold it for me but pulled the offer and sold it to someone else.

Word of this 'infamous 100,000 dollar specimen' is new to me. Sound highly interesting though. It is an uncut sheet of 12 'whats'?

12 100,000 dollar bills. They were only printed one year I think and in very small numbers. They never say regular circulation, they were used in interbank exchanges.
