I am looking at buying 4 eagles and 2 Maple leafs tomorrow.
The dealer said would be around $6800. (selling at spot)

Well .. this might be hard to explain. I have one friend that wants to sell them. I talked to my local dealer, who said he would tell me what he would buy them for .. so that I could buy them from my friend. So I am really wondering if buying at spot .. is good,
or do some dealer buy at less then spot?
Rest in Peace

Probably, if you think the price will rise. Most dealers sell at spot + some % and buy at spot - some %. They make moneyboth ways.

APMEX.com pays over spot but you have to pay shipping. Currently their buy price on 1oz GAE is $1164.30 and 1oz Maples are at $1160.10. They would pay $6,977.40 for the 6 pcs.

Shipping registered USPS would run you about $30 so I'd look into it. The price the dealer quoted is $8 back of spot which is not bad at all if you don't want to mess with shipping.

Thanks for all the information guys ...

What I am doing is taking my friend and his coins to my local dealer. Find out what he would pay for them, then buy those coins from my friend. So it looks like buying at spot is a fair price right now.

My local dealer buys Buffalo and Eagle one ounce gold coins at spot and charges $60 over spot for sales. Foreign bullion is $10 less on both sides.
