I was digging through the $1 bin at a coin show today, and here is what I found:

Xshift, since I was looking for you when I found this one, it's yours.
Thanks again for those great variety guides--have fun looking this one up!

1928 can have quite a few of these 'broken' letters or numerals.

Broken bottom of 8 in date.
Broken top of 8 in date
Broken O in OMN
Broken O in GEORGIVS
Broken 2 in date

Can often show more than one error per coin. This info extracted from a
list of Penny errors / varieties compiled by Qld Rusty Sandy
.

Hi Nancy. I really should change my nick so they are all the same eh. There are at least 2 more breaks commonly known and they are the D in FD on the obverse, and also the you in AUSTRALIA on the reverse. I also have a coin that has the bottom of the I in AUSTRALIA diefilled in the same way the rest of the breaks occurr. There may be one or a combination of breaks on any coin and that means there would be a huge amount of variations of the same varieties/errors. Cheers.

Here is a picture of one with a not-completely-broken 8.. half of the bottom curve of the 8 is still intact:

Thanks for the new one DV! These make a great pair

Glad you like it--and that one looks like a second "broken 8" variety.
Look at the top of the 8, and the shape of the two...
