I got this GENUINE email today from Paypal.

"Dear Shane McCulloch,

It has come to our attention that you may be the recipient of potentially unauthorised funds. We have initiated an investigation into this event. In the meantime, we have placed a temporary hold on the funds in question until the investigation is complete. This temporary hold will show as a deduction in your available balance. In the meantime, you are free to continue transacting using your PayPal account."

The payment was made as a result of an ebay sale which me being as prompt as I am...the item was sent over a month ago the same day payment was made. Paypal send me this email over a month later. I ask these questions...

1) Shouldn't paypal wear the lose if it is their system that falls down and a frauduent transaction is made?
2) Why should the sellers wear the lose if they make a sale and receive a supposedly secure transaction in good faith?
3) What ever happened to seller protection?
4) If a seller can not be guarenteed a fair and safe transaction by paypal why should we use it?
5) Where is the fairness in the paypal system...everything always goes their way...they never seem to hold themselves accountable.

I am understanding correctly that you are transferring funds from your account to the sellers? I don't see the advantage in doing this. Why not use your credit card for the transaction, thus receiving the protection of that company in the event of any fraud. This eliminates the problems with pay pal. This happened to me once about six months ago with a seller and my credit card immediately gave me a credit on the transaction.

Hi Bigfella,

If you have time, have a quick look at the terms & conditions to see if this is covered, then have a look at Australia's Uniform Consumer Credit Code to see if this is allowed. It sounds pretty dodgy to me...

As a buyer using PP I usually use credit card to pay--As a seller, as soon as a buyer sends the funds--I immediately transferr those funds out to my bank account--In other words--my paypal account has exactly $0 dollars in it--zip--nada--
Legally speaking even if someone complaints, PP cannnot withdraw money from my bank account without me transferring it or approving it--IF they ever attempt to freeze my account or try to withdraw moneys without my approval will mean an instant lawsuit and my immediate cancellation of that account--

O BTW, isn't there a time limit before a buyer can file a complaint?

When I used the free PayPal basic account, I didn't accept credit cards as my account would have been automatically upgraded to a premier account and every transaction would have had a fee. I had too many problems with people paying by credit card and had to deny payment. At that time my listings clearly stated that I accept PayPal with bank transfer or existing funds and not credit cards. Yet people still chose to use the credit card. Some people just refuse to read the listing carefully. After a while I got tired of dealing with that so I went ahead and upgraded my account. Now I have to pay a fee on everything, even bank transfers! That was the main reason why I didn't want to take credit card payments as I didn't want the extra fees.
