I trust you were not looking for a 6 page read about the main die pairs responsible for the varieties within the full, weak, and absent mint marks.

Simple answer.."1922 Weak D" This label is often recklessly tossed onto ANY worn 1922d. The difference between a weak D and a regular D is large. The weak D is extremely faint. Sometimes not even showing up on pictures. All too many times it is wishful thinking that makes nearly every 22d you see wear the designation of "weak" just to inflate the price.

Regular 22d is not bold in the sense where it is to be considered abnormal, but it is a conventional mark. Some are slightly more/less pronounced in examples, but it is your basic conventional coin.

Weak D- It is nearly invisible, not just merely less than 100% of normal. More to be considered less than 10-20% of a normal mark's depth/height.

And to add to RFB, true Weak Ds are typically confused with the No D types because the D is so weak and almost invisible. That is a much larger mistake money-wise than mistaking a normal D for a Weak D. Personally, I would never purchase a Weak D or No D that was not slabbed because too many sellers do not properly attribute them.

I agree, the weak D is usually pretty faint.
