I have what I think is an error coin. I have a 1824 50 cent coin that the letters on the edge seem to be doubled, the coin must have been rotated before the second time because the word "of" is stamped over the EN in the word cent. Has anyone seen or heard of this before?

Edge lettering errors on the Bust Half Dollar series are not uncommon but there is not too much interest in them since they do not play a role in the attribution of the Overton die varieties.

Yes swades, I have heard of a very similar, if not the same thing (involving the word 'of'); very coincidental, but I do not recall it being on an 1824. It is possible that you may have a very scarce and highly desirable coin. I suggest that you hold onto that one until you can get an experienced Bust Nut to check it out.

Now that I have already posted, and have thought twice about it, it seems as though what I was recalling were the numbers '50' stamped over the 'en' in cents. That could very well be the nomenclature of your coin.
