Here's an IHC I picked up at the last show. As you can see by the pic, it's easy to overlook an RPD in a dusty 2x2--especially if grime obscures part of the RPD. Of course, it's possible to verify w/o cleaning-- never a good idea on an IHC. Despite the photo, the RPD/ date position markers are a suffient match to the attribution guide (below). This bronze 1864 grades F15 Latman100, this one's for you Edited by DVCollector 11/22/2009 4:24 pm

Is the Snow book a multiple volume offering, or does one book cover the IHC's? Good god you sure do find the varieties in these DV. Do you already have a complete set of Cents and are just working on the varieties now? Your knowledge and pictures in the series is fantastic.

There are three Snow books, broken down by years: 1859-69, 1870-89, 1890-1909. Thanks--in this case I was looking for a problem-free coin for a friend and lucked out. All I collect now are die varieties--RPDs, overdates, doubled dies. And they're getting harder to find in IHCs.

There is also a Snow book for the entire set.

Quote: There is also a Snow book for the entire set. Really? That would be one huge binder. Perhaps you're thinking of the smaller FE/IHC Red Book written by Rick Snow. That is more of a general IHC guide, and not an all-inclusive listing of die varieties per year. His attribution guides are great references-- check them out here.

Yes, that would be a huge binder! It would sure be a big help, here, if it would fit under mt CCTV reader. "Sheating", is normally not a good option, but there are cases when one has no other options If it helps me see the RPD, OD, MPD, and hub-doublings, yes, I cheat! BTW, there is a fourth book, which is in the mill, and should be ready for delivery by the end of this month, (Nov. '09). It is a superceded edition of the 1890-1909. There is also a reprint, which has just been made available. I have ordered both. Nothing reveived as yet, but I'm sure they will be here any day.

Kurt, I received my new 1890-1909 book yesterday. There are a few new varieties for every year, (in the 1900's). The 1890's are a new section. I am just starting on the new varieties of the 1900's, checking for new ones, or proving the one I have might be a new variety.

Cool...I'm really interested to see what's in the 1890s section, as I'm only familiar with the 1894/1894 and the 1897 "1 in neck".
