So was at a bank that had some $2 bills so I bought $100 worth. Drove down the road and bought a couple candybars. Came to $2.20. I paid with 2 $2 bills and a half dollar piece. Her eyes widened and thought Christmas came early. She took the brand new bills and set them to the side and said she was buying them. Just kind of funny to see peoples reaction when you whip one of those out.

I'm confused as to why you felt compelled to give her $4.50 for a $2.20 purchase? Unless you were just selling her a second $2.00 bill. I've been using Ikes at the post office and generally keep a few extra in my pocket because a certain worker there likes them.
Rest in Peace

I've had merchants question both a half dollar and a $2 bill when presented for payment. Some people know nothing about them.

I know...crazy isn't it? Lots of cashiers and tellers take them and pause for a second (because they just don't see many of them or don't know where to put them in their drawer). But others, I don't know about. I actually had a teller in her forties actually have to turn the half dollar over and read the denomination off of it! And Ikes! I love giving an Ike to a teller in her teens or early twenties! The befuddled look is a riot!

I had the $2 bills out and then remembered one of the halves I had the bank wouldn't take. The broke that as well and got usable coin.

Same thing happens with the new dollar coins. Most clerks stop for a few seconds just to look in awe at them and the edge before putting them in the slot with the stamps, paper clips or other things.

I only had $2 bills in my wallet and couldn't use the vending machine so I changed one with someone for 2 $1 bills. They couldn't believe I was getting rid of "The lucky Deuce" then I showed them the other 6 I had in my wallet!

I paid for a purchase from one of our members a couple months ago with consecutive crisp $2 bills.. I think the word for me after receipt of payment was 'cruel'...!

I have younger kids (8, 11, and 14) and this is a fun way to pay for their allowance as well. My youngest didnt even know a $2 bill was even made. They are fun to see and mine are just like the ones that xshift got. As crisp as if they just came off the press and sequentially numbered.

I've had things like that go on with $2 bills and uncommon coinage, but the strangest reaction I had came from paying with a $20 bill once. I was at a smoothie shop and when I gave the teenager behind the register a $20 he stared at it for a minute and looked at me strangely before continuing with the transaction. I then asked him what was going on and he said the $20 looked like a fake. I told him it was just what came out of the ATM. He still seemed suspicious but finished the transaction. If I didn't have 3 people waiting for me in the car and a 2hr. drive ahead of us I would have had a conversation with the manager.

Why did he think is was suspicious? Because it was one of the "old" 20s with the small Jackson portrait! I think he had never seen one before. I'll admit they aren't as common today as before... but that was pretty ridiculous!
