with that amount of damage I doubt anyone would authenticate it as a 1943, it's probably a 1948

Before you get too excited, could it be plated?

nope already checked that. and I'm not easily excitabel. I first noticed that it looked like a 1943 over a month ago but awasnt sure so I just set it aside and forgot about it. I came across it again last night while I was digging through my coins to find a couple to sell for christmas money for the kids. goood thing the wife was helping otherwise I might have just thrown it back in the closet!

Check it with a magnet. If it sticks, sorry. If it doesn't, maybe. By the way, a 1943 copper penny was featured in a rerun of Las Vegas last week.

If the penny was homeless at one point and lived on the streets it would end up with damage like that.

Check the shape of a real 1943 and see of the bottom of the 3 is lower like the real 1943. A lot of coins have been tampered with to make it appear to be a 1943 Copper U.S. Cent.

i am convinced its authentic. it was a whitman album that I bought for 50 cents. so I really dont think its a fake it was in the spot for a 1942. but when I pulled all the coins out of the album and examined it under my 10x loupe I thought there was something odd about the last digit so I compared it to a 1942 I had and a 1943.

You can't really tell anything from the blurry picture but is is probably a beat up 1942, 1945 or 1948
Can we get a better picture?
Thanks, Bill
