Most fall in the category of G-VG10 with the exception of the 1922 Pl. which is known for en extremely soft strike as well as weak and strong reverses. The 09-S V.D.B. mm bothers me a little. How and where did you acquire this coin? BTW, placing this thread in the grading section will get more exposure

Quote: The 09-S V.D.B. mm bothers me a little The VDB on this one also looks strange. The obverse doesn't match up well with the reverse. It looks like the obverse was polished or severely cleaned. Authentic? 1909 S - perhaps F12 1909 S VDB - see above 1914 D - F15 1922 No D Which version is this? - Corroded Reverse 1931 S - G4, corroded

I don't like the looks of the S-VDB either, it looks like an added mintmark to me. you better send that one in for grading / authentication.

Just to clarify, the 1922 no D is not the most valuable die pair 2. I know what to look for in die pair 2, but not the other die pairings, sorry.
Die pair 2, the second "2" in the date should be strong. The word "trust" in "in god we trust" should be noticeably stronger than "in god we". The reverse should be well struck.

Yeah, that S on the S-VDB looks off to me as well. I'd consider getting that certified. The 1909-SVDB can be a dangerous coin to acquire because its value and fame have led to many counterfeits over the years.

is it me or do the 09s and s v.d.b appear not really to match up with reverses. they both really don't "fit"...hmm...? wish I had the in hand to see what's up with them.

09 S VDB doesn't look real.
