If you follow the VAMworld boards... you already saw it, but I picked an xf 1878 VAM-116 (doubled P) It has nice green, yellow, orange, and red hues on the obverse which my camera wont pick up because they are soft. I am quite happy with it for $30.

Nice snag Remmy. So which version is it? There was discussion on VAMWorld about it being a B or C. I picked up a 116A over the summer (my pics are on the VAMWorld page). The 116A version has die scratches all over the place on the reverse. I believe the following versions have these polished out.

I am almost positive it is a B at this point. But the toning on the reverse (again my camera doesn't catch it... I wonder why digital cameras dont catch soft toning? and sometimes the heavy stuff too. I am sure it has to do with light refraction, and lens capture and such, but hmmmm) Anyway, the toning on the reverse almost prevents you from seeing the marks, but they are there. I just cant get a good enough pic for someone else to go... Yep, thats a B. LOL

But it still could be a C... The reason I think it is a B, is "B"ecause :) it has the cross above the olive branches, and the other "gouges" boy they are small... look more like polish lines to me, but I know better. So the gouges fit the B. Now if all the gouges from B are on the C, then this still could be a C. If not it is a lock on B. The pics on the VAMworld page seem to indicate they are there, just more of em. Like the difference between the A and B. The Vamworld pics should at a minimum prove its a B.

I think I can see the other gouges from the C (like under the eagles foot above the arrow feathers below the olive branch.... but I have stared at this coin too long. I also thought I could see the start of the gouge on the ribbon, but I think I can make out the same mark I see on the B pics, so I am unsure still.

Remmy,

I'll have to take a look when I get home. All I see is a small square box with a red X
