quick question. do all 1880-o have the hangnail on the tailfeathers on the reverse?

Both VAM 48 and 49 have the hangnail. VAM 49 also has the clashed letters n and st on the obverse. Both high interest and top 100 coins, if you've found one, nice catch.

thanks morgansrmine! I have been interested in these Vams as of late and was going through some and noticed one of mine had it. I will get a picture up when I get back home tomorow night hopefully

In addition to the clashes mentioned, the 49 has the overdate feature on the second 8. If your hangnail has a short spike protruding from the upper left of the 8, you've got a definite keeper! Here's a picture of that feature:

daviscfad,

I see a mark on the second 8 that is in the correct position, but it's too long. The over-date feature on the VAM 49 is the top left tip of a 7 underneath the 8. Check the length of the protrusion in my photo. Take a good look at is under 10x or a digital microscope would be better if you have one. Let us know.

yeah its not like the one in your picture. I am not sure what it is. Its round and touches the 8
