I got this 1884O from a teller at one of my local banks- it was in back of an Ike dollar in the teller's tray and I thought I was buying 2 Ikes- instead ,much to my surprise, it was a 84 O Morgan.

Not bad for a buck!

I need some help with a possible VAM- I don't have any books etc and I went thru every 84 O VAM listed on VAM world and none show the die clash on the reverse that this coin has.

Here are some pics.

Thanks.

Double clash. Not particularly rare - some problems that will cause a planchet to fail to feed are repetitive, allowing the dies to come together more than once - and not sufficient to warrant a VAM designation on its' own. Which means, unfortunately, you're stuck attributing this coin by its' other features.

That will be difficult. This is still a very incomplete science - most people don't recognize the staggering amount of information yet to be gathered about even the identified VAM's - it's not like there's a system in place of microscopic examination of each VAM with subsequent publication of all information gleaned.

It's frustrating.

SuperDave:

Thanks for the info!

I'll just keep it listed as a double clash unless I can spot something more significant.
