AU? Looks natural to me, was wondering about the appearance of striations on the obverse, particularly in the field Liberty is facing.

Thanks

Thats a beauty. Is it for sale?
My opinion on that is maybe it was cleaned a while ago? I am only guessing that due to the chalky look around the stars.
But I am no expert... I am just starting my bust quarter venture.

Yes, it is for sale, but I'm not telling where or all you coin dogs may beat me out of it! [:p]

It does seem kind of bright but not in that obviously-cleaned kind of way and I've seen many original, uncleaned ones just as light. Also, verdigris around the rims is kind of common since handling tends to keep the middle parts of a coin wiped when circulating.

This is in an ACG holder and I have no idea what their policy is on cleaned coins, whether they reject them like NGC & PCGS, notate cleaning on the label as ANACS does, or just do nothing. I searched their web site and all over this forum but couldn't find anything on their policy. Does anybody know?

we can tell its on ebay because of the pictures but I would never bid on a coin that someone else on this forum was interested in and was asking questions about because he wanted the coin himself and instead of me giving him advice I go track down the auction and bid him out of it.

I was just kidding, but, since you mention it... you 100% about that?

**edit** I know you were only speaking for yourself but maybe not everyone else is as astute or ethical as you are

By the way, how can you tell if it was on E-Bay? What about the pic gives that away?

**edit* Never mind, I know now.

I tracked down the item on ebay and I have to say after looking at their pictures on ebay I feel that ACG graded this one correctly and if it has ever been cleaned it was a long time ago but I dont really think it has. Ususlly when a coin has been cleaned some time ago there are dark spots around the raised areas and in crevases and this coins doesn't show that characteristic

Yep, I thought the grading was accurate, it was whether it was cleaned or not that I was looking for feedback on. Although, I thought the lack of detail on the talons and the stars was curious compared to other AU's I've seen.

Hmmm... I wasn't aware of that. You mean cleaned from dipping/ polishing? Certainly not from whizzing, right? Thanks Bryan.

<--------- Slow learner. It didn't dawn on me about the little ebay picture logo thingamabobber.

I originally thought the coin was yours, and wanting an opinion on the grade.
I have yet to buy a coin on ebay, and do not plan to start any time soon.

It sure is a good looking quarter though.

Definitely a nice AU coin. I see a possibility of a long-ago cleaning but nothing harsh. I think the pics are flat because they're scans. Scans do not pick up any luster.

For the record, I have seen (in hand) ACG graded coins that were cleaned and overgraded. Fortunately, these pics are clear enough that you are able to base your price on the coin, not the slab.

Good luck!!
