Honestly, I'm a bit unclear on the sheer variety of RCM collector issues. Right, "specimen" isn't frosted. I think this is the proof set with silver 10c-$1 coins. Mintage ~181K. Charltons CV is $17

I think the RCM and the RAM (Royal Australian Mint) are in some sort of competition to see who can produce the most collector issues in any one calendar year.

The US mint is keeping pace with our State Quarter mintage of some 35 billion.

I would say that the Canadian coins alone are close to the $50 dollar value, and those are based on 2008 prices. The 2 single silver dollars are both listed as 20 dollars Canadian according to the 2008 Charlton, (sorry haven't got the new one yet), and the 'Prestige Set' is listed as 17 dollars. Prestige Sets are determined if they contain 2 one dollar coins. The finish of the coins is described as Proof, frosted relief against a mirror background. (like most proof coins I guess). Can't really tell from your photo but are the hard plastic pages still intact within a black book with red satin insides, complete with a clasp? Should be a maple leaf on the outside of the book as well. This prestige set originally released for 36 bucks, so I'm amazed it went down so much in value. In fact when I scan down the entire listing for these sets, they all have gone down significantly. I remember reading that the polar bear one dollar coin was hot hot hot in the foreign market, tho off the record I don't like the strike of it what so ever. The fine detail for me just isn't there. Do you have the cases for the dollar coins as well? They are described as a Square Clear plastic case with a black insert..they are nothing special. To recap, I think you did fine and dandy. But you know what? For the most part,I never look back with concern if I slightly over-paid for any coin...if I didn't want to have it I never would have forked over the dough.Plain and simple. Besides, how many coins you got in which you under paid? That more that makes up for it.

Just so you know what you're dealing with in the terminology:
Proof -- Coin is double-struck on a polished planchet and frosted
Specimen -- Coin is double-struck on a polished planchet, no frosting
Uncirculated -- Business strike, everyday coinage

The 1980 canadian dollar seems to sell for around £15 in the UK and is hard to get...
