Easy Question, I am looking through rolls of Lincoln Pennys and I wonder if when they say 1999P does the P stand for Philidelphia? Or plain as in no mint mark? Thanks,

On the 1999, the P stands for Philly. On older coins made in Philly, there was no mintmark, though I forget which year they started the P mintmarks on one cent coins.

Sorry Nod, still no P's on cents. If I'm correct the P is added to 2009P just to designate that it's a specific reference to a Philadelphia minted coin rather than just a generic reference to a 2009 cent.

As of 2009, there is still no "P" on any Lincoln Cent that I'm aware of. Only a "plain" for Philly, a "D" for Denver, or an "S" for San Fran.

Thanks to the both of you. So if I am looking for a 1999P WAM I will not see a P mint mark?

usually Philadelphia coins will have no mint mark what so ever and the only Philadelphia coins I have ever seen with a "P" mint mark were proof coins like the Lincoln Commemorative Dollar, it was minted in Philadelphia and carries a P MintMark

And every Philadelphia nickel, dime, quarter, half, and dollar issued since 1980.

Seriously? I looked at what I thought was a philly cent but I guess I did not look too close. Turns out my example was a D cent. My mistake.

Which are they talking about? The answer is yes.

People say "P" when they're referring to Phili mint coins, but Phili doesn't annotate any letter on their coins. So it's understood that no mintmark = Phili.
