What would be a good price for buying or selling rolls of 40% halves?

I'll pay no more than $10.00 a roll! But I've heard of other members here getting close to 5X (after fees) face on ebay recently. Silver has dipped in price a little since then. Best thing to do would be watch a couple ebay auctions and see how they end. Watch some small and large lots and see which bring more per roll. I've heard some dealers gouge you when you sell 40% to them.

Every one looking no one saying. My problem is I can't remember what my coin shop was paying for 40% half. I am sure it was over a dollar seems like it was around $1.30 each. So maybe $26.00 a roll .. just a guess I would have to check. And silver has dropped a little since I was in there last so could be a dollar or two less.

A buck 30? Jeez, even with the fall in silver prices they have $2.59 silver value. I would hope to get at least $2.00 even for them if selling and not pay more than $2.50 or so if buying.

I could be wrong .. but like Ratman says a lot of dealers are not that excited about buying 40% halves. I think there is something about when they sell to the big silver buyers that sell for melting, there is something about when silver is below 50% pure, that it is harder to process/refine the silver. I did take a brief look on ebay and there were some lots of halves selling for more than that, but I do not know what the fee's are there. It really is about the same for 90% silver, when silver is at $16, there is about $12 worth of silver (just rounding to nearest dollar) but you would be doing good to get 8 to 10 times face.

I've seen members sell them here on the forum for 4X face and they sold quick.

I won't buy them, but I was selling them for 90% of spot shipped on avg. Obviously I was trying to move them.

40% silver gets less interest, but silver is silver.
In the "old" days, when silver was $4-$5 an ounce, 40% was a "hedge" - because even if silver plunged, you had face value to count on.
If I remember right, the CUTOFF point was $3.50 - if silver is at $3.50, a 40% Kennedy is worth 50 cents in face value and 50 cents in bullion value. So you were protected. If silver dropped to a buck, you could still take your 40% halves to the bank and get $0.50.

40% silver halves normally don't bring close to spot. That's not to say some people don't pay too much for them though. Melt prices just don't apply when there's that much alloy involved. $2/each is the MOST I'd consider paying unless silver runs up well over $20/oz. Quote: ...that's what I've been doing one guy offered me 5 mercs for each half he helped me out a lot I'll say! 5 Mercs for a 40% silver half? 2 Mercs have the same amount of silver as a 40% half!

As with nod I was also offered 2.25 per piece. that seems like the best area for price per halve you will get.

I know this has been posted before, but (124) This link is not allowed by the Staff .com will list the silver value of these halves. It won't give you selling and buying prices, but at least it'll give an updated value to work from.

I'm assuming that the above link that was removed is that site that gives you daily updated melt values of U.S. and Canadian coins. I go there often I find it interesting. My question is it seems like all this sites links have been blocked here. Yet other sites links are allowed I was wondering if there is some kinda "beef" with this site or is there another reason why?

The "beef" is that these sites, or someone associated with them, continually spammed the forum with their links. This is not something that was done lightly; it is most definitely a well earned banishment.
