I don't quite know what to call it, but I have managed to combine all of my gold coins into one album, and it's sort of evolved into what you see here in the pictures, so this is my journal log for my "gold collection", outside of my 7070 journal. The gold bug bite has branched out in several different ways, but I have still managed to confine itself to one album.

It started out as the basic 10 coin 7070 type set...then I felt I needed to include the Classic Heads, type 2 dollar, and 3 dollar gold piece. At this point, all of those don't fit into my 7070 very well, so I bought another 7070 just for gold. The coins I've decided to keep certified are velcroed(so you can easily remove them and see the reverse) to the inside of the front cover

Then I started getting into commemoratives, and realized that I really liked the look of "proof" gold...so I bought another page just for the proofs.

I also decided that I could potentially acquire a quarter eagle indian set(the only gold series that is affordable). Since I really like those coins, I started after them and have 3 now.

THEN (whew, are you still awake?), I decided I should collect both "motto" and "no motto", so I can further extend my basic type set. So another page for that....however, there is not both a "motto" and "no motto" for each of the 10 types, so I realized I need gold hole fillers. The Classic Heads fill some of the gaps, but I need more. Mexican Pesos are close enough in size for the smaller coins, they are very cheap(sell for melt), and have a cool eagle thing on the reverse. So now, I can complete one other "type page" with Classic Heads, mexican pesos and "no motto" gold coins.

Then I purchased another "motto" $10 eagle( 1926 NGC MS-61) because..........well, I just like them, but dont know how to fit it into a category.

Now that I have a Dahlonega half eagle on the way, and this is probably going to spawn a half eagle set of the more difficult branch mints( dahlonega, charlotte, and carson city).

My ultimate goal is to get a draped bust or capped bust gold half(or eventually both) to have as my gold set "key date"....but they are way out of my current price range and I'm certain I will have to sacrifice some coins to buy one.

Here is the evolved "Gold coin set" as of now. Will the madness ever end?

Sheesh man, those are REALLY nice. You're just about as obsessed with gold as I am with Barber coins!

NICE, NICE, NICE!!

Man, the standard 7070 gold page looks positively boring now!

I really like the pesos and the commemoratives!

Great idea for the additional pages! And the velcro for the slabs. The best of all worlds!

You Da Man Johnny Countdown! Thanks for posting pics of these beautiful coins!

Rest in Peace

Thanks! Yeah, the velcro works surprisingly well with these albums! The important thing is to leave enough space for the slabs...but I like to keep all of my collection together and this makes it work for me to include slabbed with raw.
