Question on the 2009 Silver Proof set and 2009 mint proof sets...

Both sets look the same, both have the same US Mint holders, both are from the "S" mint The silver proof set is 90% silver and the mint proof set is clad

If you look at them they look the same. I cant see a difference... Maybe you have to open the set and see clad in between?
How can you tell the difference ?

Please Answer for all because I bet allot of us are asking the same question ?

Ah, but both do not look the same The silver set lens is red while the clad set lens is blue. You can also do the tissue test if you have a loose coin. Just lay a thin tissue across a coin in a well-lit area, silver will reflect white through a tissue while clad will look dark.

Do you mean red backing in the case? If so,then I got ripped off by the USMINT, both sets have a blue backing.

I say it prety foolish to have the silver 90% look exackly like a clad coin.
If the only way to tell is do a tissue test that is prety poor design by the mint

How long has it been since you received the silver set from the mint?

If your still within seven days you can return it (for any reason).

In my opinion, it is hard to tell the difference just looking at the coin, also the coins in the "silver set" come in a red box and have a red backing cover, the proof set has a blue box with a blue backing cover.

I also believe the coins in hand, as stated earlier are much easier to tell apart, look at the edge of the coins for the clad color or not.
I think if you received sets in a red box, and the plastic covers are colored blue, this is a mistake, did you buy directly from the Mint, if so, as stated, you have 7-days to return, good luck, Mike....

Mike, being somewhat acquainted with the law if you were a victim of an error or even fraud you can return them for a full refund at any time. Under the law it is called an "implied warranty of merchantability" and the concept is simple. The merchant being the US mint did not provide you with the items you bargained for and therefore are not resalable as the same. Hope that wasn't too much legalese!
