Can someone explain to me what a Star Note is? I hear this term a lot and I'm not sure what it is.

Thanks
Tim

Star notes are replacements for sheets that are damaged during the printing process. I believe that the serial numbers stay the same but a star is added next to the SN to denote it as being a replacement.

You are right Bio,these notes are a little more rare, but most dont really bring to high of a premium.. Here are some more examples (NOTE) the star is before the serial number, the two dollar note posted here has a decent raise in price at higher grades

I heard it differently, I heard that every other "brick" thats printed the quality control takes 1 bill out and checks to make sure no errors are found on it and replaces it with a star note

Bryan 1315 I never heard of that it is a very interesting Question though, and if in the event you are right the % of a star note being produced / Vs the standard note would still give it a slight edge on rarity, I would have to assume. I wonder where we could get an answer to this

I did some searching on the net and it seems I was mis-informed, here is what it says about star notes on the web

A STAR Note is a note with a STAR (*) in the prefix or suffix position of the serial number. These notes are typically used to replace a note damaged during the printing process to maintain the correct count of notes in a serial number run. Packs of STAR notes are sometimes released when the supply is greater than what's needed. Since STAR notes are much more uncommon, they are prized by collectors.

Thanks everyone. Maybe we could get this definition added to the Glossary up on the left. That was the 1st place I looked before I asked this question.

Thanks again
