This thread is fabulous, and thanks to those who have posted. I'm afraid that I started collecting world coins just a few years ago and have only very modern examples that I could share images of.

I do have a question. I've never understood why the 15 kopek coin was minted, and apparently for a very long period. It just seems to be an odd denomination, even odder than the 3-cent piece that I use as my avatar. Does anyone have an explanation for this denomination? Maybe originally it was the price of a peck of potatoes?

Thanks 'pls', I'm glad you like the thread. You raised a good question about the 15 Kopek coin, which unfortunately I have no clear answer. It certainly is a unique denomination.

To All Who Have Posted - Beautiful coins...
DJB1968 - Thanks for the info and specimens...

Attached please find a few specimens in my collection that I obtained from family, who emigrated to the U.S. during the 20th century. They are not as nice as some of the specimens provided, as they were brought here and had been in circulation...

The first specimen is a 1922 50 Kopek, minted earlier in the year prior to when the First Congress of the Soviets of the USSR approved the Treaty which created the USSR (Dec 30th 1922).

Between July 10th 1918 and December 29th 1922, the official name of Russia was Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic... Hence the cyrillic initials on the reverse bottom of the coin... (PC#632;CP)

I'm seeing alot of interesting specimens being shared. Thanks to all have a contributed. Here's a post-revolution coin that I find very interesting This is a 3 Ruble coin from ARMAVIR dated 1918. This is the Type 2 variety with the intials below the tail feathers (not visible in photo), and one star at the bottom. These came in 1,3 (two varieties) and 5 Ruble denominations, and were the only coins issued by the White Government.

Thanks for your contribution 'CheetahCats'. I find the designs very interesting on both the imperial and soviet coins. While they had two different ideologies, the symbolism on their coat of arms is very similar. The soviet arms had ribbons representing the constituent republics, similar to the emblems on the eagles breast and wings of the imperial arms for the different regions under tsarist rule. The crown and five point star each represents the ruling governments. The hammer and sickle is similar to the scepter and orb representing power. The globe on the soviet arms is similar to the double-headed eagle of the imperial arms in representing the vast influence of the respective powers.

I seem to remember an African country that, at one time, produced unusual denomination coins, but with old age galloping up I just can't remember which one!
I know it's coins being discussed here but between 1985 and 1987 Burma (now Myanmar) issued 15, 35, 45, 75 and 90 kyats banknotes. Now that must have been a nightmare when doing the weekly shopping.

pls

If I have correctly understood you enquire about date since 1912 on 1916
I to you will answer this question.
Cost of coins influences from circulations
For example for 15 copecks:
1914 43 million circulation
1915 59 million
1916 circulation of 96 million.
And 20 copecks cost and circulation an example:
1914 52 million circulation
1915 106 million circulation
1916 132 million.
And for 10 copecks too most
