ebay - I know the the sellers pictures are not very good. But to me it does not look like there is much wear on the high points (head, arms ans eagle wings. From what I can see eye appeal is not great, maybe acetone would help?

What do you all think?

Terrible pics and not very good feedback is a recipe for disaster on a raw Trade Dollar There are two distinctive obverses and reverses on Trade dollar, fakes usually have a wrong combination but the pics are blurred so you cannot see the diagnostics. Are you aware that this is one of the most widely disseminated fakes on ebay?

Biokemist covered most of it. But I'll add that the seller's negative feedback had some very strange entries. I suspect that he had some items sell for below what he wanted, got mad, and charged outrageous shipping to make up the difference. There are so many red flags around this auction that I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

I will also agree with Bio, This is the most widely counterfeited coin known and without seeing clear pictures of the coin one can not tell if it is one of these counterfeit coins or a real one. I am willing to bet there are 3 fakes to every 1 real Trade dollar out there and that isn't very good odds when purchasing a Trade dollar blindly like this

Yes I know Trade dollars are widely faked, in fact the only one I ever bought was fake and a returned it. Just always looking for a good deal, and he did say can be returned.

I believe in my humble opinion, the coin looks like it was made and buried in the yard for a year and then brought up for sale. I could be wrong but the coin looks to be like new when you blow up the photographs. That is a clear warning in my book as how did he get so dirty and stay with nearly no wear.

if you keep the money you pay for shipping both ways soon you will have enough to buy a graded example that you know is real. Taking a $5.00 hit each way is costly just to take a chance, even if you ship it a different way and its cheaper you will still have about $7.00 (because you will want signature confirmation to be sure they pay you back) each coin and have your money tied up until they refund it to you. Its not worth the risk to me on this series when you can buy one for about $150.00 from a reputable source and be confident its real
