It's a flawed system.

I just completed about 30 coin sales on the 'Bay last week. I take great pic's of the coins so buyers have no surprises, offer 7-day no-questions-asked return policy, the shipping charge ($2.50) is a break-even or loss for me, I ship the day following payment and post feedback for the buyer as soon as the payment is posted. Then, I send them an email through ebay thanking them for their purchase, tell them when it shipped, that I've left positive feedback for them and would appreciate the same from them if they are satisfied with the coin, and if not to contact me so we can work a solution. In a nutshell I bend into a pretzel and kiss their ***. But that's how I do it and the vast majority are very pleased.

Now this one flippant idiot doesn't post ebay feedback for the sale, he just sends me an ebay email saying he's happy with the coin and all the service ... and adds a btw he got the coin for 1/2 price!

I wait a couple of days expecting to see a positive feedback from this buyer, but nothing after a week.

Hey it's just one of many and doesn't account for much ... but it's the principal ... rather than post a beneficial comment he sent the smart-*** email.

Just hope he tries to buy again from me and sees that ebay screen ..."YOU'RE BLOCKED!"

I never leave feedback. If the sale went well, somebody will leave positive feedback. If the sale went poorly, people still leave positive feedback to prevent retaliatory feedback. What's the point?

For starters, I never purchased anything of high value via ebay.

Even if the system is flawed, I still leave feedback but only when the item has arrived.

One time the item did not arrive and feedback was only left when a resolution was reached between the seller and me regarding the item which was lost in the post.

I agree that as a seller, you can block whoever you want.

You obviously haven't been on ebay in quite some time.

You can buy an item... deliberately pay for it with a bad check... email the seller and tell him the check's no good... and also tell him his wife is a tramp... and he still can't leave you a negative.

I always leave feedback but I tend to buy only from a small group of sellers that I have developed a bit of a relationship with. I know when I buy from them I will get what is pictured/described.

This ultimately hurts my ebay ranking because repeat sellers don't "count" as high as new sellers on my buyer ranking. But I'm fine with that - I'm not going to go buy just to get my ranking up. And if a seller chooses not to sell to me because my ranking is low, that is 100% their call.

Clinton this isn't a criteria for evaluating potential bidders. The only bidders a seller can exclude are: NPB (non-paying bidders) with two or more strikes in the previous month, a negative feedback score, shipping address on excluded list, or by username. If you have a positive feedback score and haven't alienated a seller, you won't be blocked.

I am currently on a blocked list from one seller due to a negative feedback I rendered for a cleaned and significantly not as described coin. I just consider this as the seller doing me a favor.

SeatedNut, thanks for the explanation. I should have made myself more clear. As a seller, you can set up the auction to only accept bids from people with a certain ranking or higher (my wife does it all the time on her auctions). That was where I was going with my comment but I didn't make myself clear. :-)

Sorry, but I believe your wife is fibbing to you.

Here is the buyer blocking criteria permitted and how they work, as you can see the only feedback rankings you can block are negatives.

Ebay-Feedback

She may be doing it manually, but it's not automated.

Some people just don't leave feedback. Oh well. I've had sellers not leave feedback, buyers not leave feedback - a little irritating but in the greand scheme of things, so what? I just wouldn't worry about it. If you are 100% or very close to it, one more positive isn't really going to matter that much.

My main goal is to avoid negatives. Sounds like you are doing all the right things, so no worries.

Just my opinion.

Ken it just irked me that this one guy took to the time to put it in an email and not in the feedback. I interpreted that as because he didn't like me asking buyers to take the time to post feedback. Had I received nothing from this buyer, this post would not exist.

SeatedNut: I understand where you're coming from and your need to vent. Venting can be beneficially cathartic. I have vented a few times here on the forum and went away feeling better. Funny how that works! In addition to the situation you experienced, there is also the dreaded "positive feedback but low detailed seller ratings" buyer. As an example of what I mean, the buyer gives you a positive feedback but then gives you a poor detailed seller rating on your (sounds reasonable to me!) $2.50 shipping cost and then, POOF, there (potentially) goes your Top-Rated Seller status right out the window. You'll probably never know who did THAT to you either, so you won't even know who to block.

I think youre going a little overboard,blocking a buyer who apparently completed the transaction.....youre just going to hurt yourself in the end!

One out of thousands/tens of thousands ... won't hurt a bit. The only one who will know is this buyer. My feedback is 100% and dsr's are in the 98/99% range.

When I was still buying via ebay, I had over a thousand successful transactions and perhaps 3-4 unsuccessful where the results led me to leave negative or neutral feedback - and we're talking items not received or packed so poorly that a monkey wrench would have arrived broken in the package they used. I'd estimate that 35-40% of the sellers NEVER left feedback of any kind. Mind you, I said SELLERS, not buyers. I left feedback for 100% of the transactions, too.

A seller can block any buyer for absolutely no reason. You simply go to the ebay "site map", look under "Sell", click on "Blocked Bidder/Buyer list" enter any names your little hearts desire for any or no reason whatsoever. Usually it's done because another forum member, on a different site has had a bad experience with that buyer, and gives out the buyers username.
