I too am enjoying the Canadian Cent sn31. I think that a young lady in Oklahoma has renewed my interest in the Canadian coin! hmmmmmmm Wonder who that is?

The only thing about the Canadian coins is the ever changing face of Her Majesty, QEII. I would love to see a coin with QEI on it as I find the history of her 60 year reign fascinating. Have you noticed the age changes on QEII from the early coinage to current years?

No disrespect to all of our friends in Canada but, IF Charles ever becomes King, I do so hope that he doesn't start showing up on the coinage - he's not photographic in my not so humble opinion.

When I was trolling (ha ha between us) through my Canadians for someone "special", I started to really look at the older cents and realized that they were actually nice looking coins and that they changed slightly over the years. I forgot to mention that the George's are especially nice looking. I'm going through them sometime today and putting them in their own little Canadian Coin (Cent book). Now, don't get any ideas, I'm just starting with this. I've always just kept them in a little box.....just because! But, now they deserve their own little "home"!

I want my little Canadians to look nice. I know that it will reduce their value.........sn31.....you use Olive Oil you said? How much and how long? What do they look like when you get done and how do you remove the Olive Oil? I'm off to a new adventure into "no no" land and want to clean them!

It's really not a good idea to clean them, but if you must(assuming they have green on them)you can soak them in olive oil for up to a month. If you do a search in the main forum there is a topic about this with a before, and after photo.I've been told you can stick them in raw potatos too.I'm not sure about drying them, just don't do any rubbing on them.sn31.

Thanks sn31. I remember this being mentioned in another thread. I guess that I could have done a search - silly me.

As for the Large Cent. I have one! It's not as old as yours scoutjim99. Mines a 1912. Don't have a clue where I got it.

My favorite CDN coins would be pre-confederation, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick. I enjoy the NF large cents and have several monarchy's, from Victoria right up to George VI. coins with Edward on them are harder to find, In addition to their low mintages, they were only minted for 2 years. Also, because of their high silver content many were melted down.

Another interesting set is the 1967 commemorative "animal" set the Bird (1 cent), Rabbit (nickel), Fish (Quarter) and Cougar (Quarter).

The "Victory" nickel is very nice, as is the Millenium Quarter put out by Canada post.
