I just made these overlays, but the details are too vague. what's my problem? I use Photoshop 7.0, and set the opacicity to 50%. I did NOT pake the pictures, They were taken from a set of "fore, and aft" views. Comments?
Thanks for looking. comments, and opinions welcome.
How do I get rid of this background? I can barely see the text!!

Can you post an example of your overlay, Dick? (and maybe the 2 pics in it?)

And what background are you referring to?

Same coin OBV view. They seem to be not enough contrast, or somethingm that , (to me) shows very little detail. Thanks for looking,

Yep overlays are tricky to do and retain details. When you layer one image over another and adjust transparency to 50%, you are effectively halving the tonal rendition of all the details. Therefore, you need to go into curves and bump up the contrast quite a bit. Here are the curves I used for the example below:

After that, I'll desaturate the photo (ctrl-U). This is my result--better?

how does it compare with the others? I noticed one thing you mentioned....you reduced the saturation. i'll have to try that onn the next one....

Opacity settings aside, the more defined the details, the clearer the overlay.
I've also found some photos are just shot better, and contrast adjustment produces better results.
--just a few things I've noticed in attempting overlays.

The better the shot, the better the results when using a particular photo. That is why I oicked a good one to work with.
I also went back and tried desaturating my image, first to 45%, and then with the curves. There is more leeway with the curves, obviously.
I am comfortable with the overlays, and am "widening my field of endeavor", to get more detail. I have nothing but time, so why niot make use of it? It would be time well spent, if I could figure a way to change the color of the window, (reply). it is sort of a blue-grey, and VERY hard for me to read my text, to correct typos. there is a very thin vertical white strip on the right hand side, but it won't move....Any ideas as to how to remove it?

Dick, sometimes I just find it easier to type in a separate text editor, if I'm going to be long-winded or just want some more typing room... then copy and paste the text into the reply window. Maybe you could use Word or something similar that even lets you adjust the font size so you can see what you're typing better.

DV, that overlay does seem to have pretty sharp details showing for both shots. I'll have to try the curves, too. I use Photoshop 6, and it's been around a while, but there are a ton of options I've just never had a reason to explore in it (yet)! I also use a lot of actions, many downloaded from Adobe, that automate a lot of shadow/contrast problems for 'normal' portrait & lanscape type pictures, which may have stunted my education

DVCollector, I do have both the curves, (and a whole lot more, that I hasven't tried, to see what they do). I played a bit with them, in fact, and the post, (45%) is the result. I tried to make ir similar to your overlay, in saturation, etc. Close, but not exact.

Xshift, I "cheat a bit, to get more, or less clean type, but no matter what I do as far as the color of the background, it remains the same, so I live with it. I have "Zoom-Text", which will make the text any size I want. It also has "reader", which reads the text to me, and I can speak, and it types. I feel like I am back in Inglish class when I do, because I have to "say" all the pinctuation, as well as the rtext. I prefer doing like everyone else does, ie just "hunt, and peck". Unless they ate typists' This window, for example is white backgroind, and easy to work with, Maybe it has some sort of "sync", with the alternating post background coloring.

Kurt, I, like Xshift, am going to try playing around with some of the things that PS 7.0 has. That should keep me busy for the rtest of the year! Like others of your posts, this will be printed, and kept handy.
Thanks for sharing, to you Coop, SuperDave, and so many more who have helped me get this far!
later:
Kurt, using yout illustration,,and my PS7.0 "curves, I don't know actually, what I am trying to do. I know you have several things planned, and don't wish to interfere, but when you have time, could you give me a bit of info to see what I'm truing ti accomplish? Nothing I do, here makes sense, because as I said, I don't know what I am trying to do TY, CUL,
Dick
