The AGE was produced in a 50 dollar coin for that year it will have either no mint mark or a W mint mark , if your not sure about the authenticity of the coin post the auction or take the time to look up the pictures ask questions of the seller do whatever you need to do to be secure in your choice to bid or not.

Indeed ..... it's a steal at the current e-bay price of $255 ..... assuming it's authentic. The seller offers a 7-day return so little risk there.
That is a US $50 gold bullion coin ..... it contains 1 ounce of gold ..... so at today's gold prices will eventually sell for $1050 +- or so.
If you can purchase it for less than the spot price of gold .... go for it.

Asking whether it is a good deal or not is premature, the auction still have over 6 days left. It will certainly finish somewhere north of $1000.

Yeah it will end at around $1200. I've bought from this seller before with no problems.

yeah but it will go up in the last few days and if it doesn't go over the 1000.00 mark in that time it will start going up within the last 3 hours. You have to think the average auction is only 7 days so it has went up to that price in less than 24 hours and it has 6 times that to go

its funny, the bidding started out at 0.01 so I bid like 5.00 thinking it was a fake. I had no idea it was real or even that valueble

a $50.00 gold coin is 1 ounce of gold and since spot price is over $1000.00 an ounce right now this one will probably go for about $1200..00

Many sellers start their bidding at 1 cent. With a coin like this they know they will get bids coming in, so they don't need to set an artificial minimum bid. In fact, setting a minimum bid too high will often discourage buyers and get you a lower final price. I've seen many live auctions for various items follow this pattern. For example, say an item is valued at $100 in a pre-auction estimate. The auctioneer might start bidding at $80. Not a single person bids on the thing. Then he starts dropping the start price and finally at $40 he gets a bid. Before you know it all kinds of people start bidding and the item sells for $150! What happens is a combination of people trying to see how low it will go so they can get the item for a bargain, only to discover everyone else was doing the same thing. At the same time a "bidding frenzy" develops where people will get caught up in the moment and bid above the maximum they set for themselves a few minutes earlier.
For the auction you are watching, here is my guess as to what is going on. Several early bidders have been making low ball bids in the hope they get lucky and get the coin for a steal. Others are watching this auction but not bidding yet. They don't want to drive up the price too early. As the auction nears its end bidding will pick up. If the item is popular you will see a bidding war take place in the final hours, even final minutes and seconds, that will bring the price of the coin in line with what it "should" be selling for. Some of these early bidders may be in the game at the end, but aren't about to put their highest bid in this early. Trust me, this coin will sell for a lot more than $265.
