Does anyone know anything about the U.S. Mint not producing the 2009 American Silver Eagle? I am seeing all kinds of 2009 Silver Eagles on ebay selling anywhere from $73.00 to well over $100.00 These coins are graded by pcgs as ms70 and have a value at pcgs for $120.00 I am a new collector and need to know more about collecting these silver eagles. Are the ones on ebay worth buying? I don't know if they are actual currency or not. Anyone with any knowledge about the collecting of american silver eagles please post comments and any information that I may use to become a successful collector of these coins. Thanks Everyone. The regular 2009 bullion Eagles have been minted to the tune of almost 30 million. However, the Mint did not sell any Proof or Uncirculated(Burnished) Eagles.

Thanks Biokemist6, In your opinion should I try to buy one now at these prices or do you think with 30 million printed I should wait and see if the price comes down. Also do you know if these coins hold their value or decrease in value over the years?

A slabbed bullion coin with a mintage of 30 million doesn't mean too much to me. Virtually all of them are very high grade, it would be hard to find one less than MS67 unless someone intentionally abused it. In other words, I just cannot see the slabbed grade bringing that much more than an almost perfect raw example that can be purchased for about 20 bucks.

Personally I have found that an excitement will wear off on most coins. They will always be worth the silver content and always be the most dependable and reasonable source of silver from the mint. If you compare the price of a ASE to a Silver Comm. you will find the ASE is cheaper to start and holds its value better, generally.

Well I have very little advice on these. Actually, I bought one on ebay 2008 PCGS MS69 for like $28 with no intent on selling it and someone picked it up and offered me $45. So I only owned one for a day. I am considering getting some but I feel the MS ones will do better than the Proofs in terms of ratio. But the important this as a collector is buy what you like. As an investor, buy what's cheap.

Well I got a 2009 slabbed MS69 ASE for $23.00 ( free shipping, + a mag. loupe, + some reading material) So, I deem it to be a good buy, and something that will definitely hold it's value and then some. The future being that, other than this one, there are NO OTHER ASE'S AVAILABLE TO OWN. So, I see this to, potentially, have some future increased value of some level. For those who want an uninterrupted ASE collection.......this 2009 Bullion ASE will always be a "must have". IMHO.(And "slabbed/certified" will only add to it, despite most of those minted being in great condition anyway, because really, this has been true since 1986 when they first began the ASE program.....They're ALL minted in great condition.....they don't circulate of course. A certified one "should" add some level of premium no matter what year of ASE, but esp. this year, I would think, for obvious reasons.) Bio is completely correct in the practical sense too, however. But, nonetheless, I'm still ecstatic over my acquisition of the only available 2009 ASE, and having it slabbed and graded at MS69 is all the better ! Time will only tell if it will be a "big deal" or not........

Easy ! If you have a 2010 RedBook...(if not, gotta get one)....the "ad" is in the first couple pages.....it shows it and all the stuff you get with it, the number to call and order along with a "code number". And you can only get one of them. Redbooks can be purchased at most any book store.

Thanks Eaglefoot, Got me a RedBook today and ordered me one today. The guy on the phone was telling me that my order number was from an older issue and the offer had expired? But then I read to him from the book that it said the offer was good until january 31st 2010. So he completed my order and I should be getting one soon.+ a free loupe. Again Thanks.

Payday is approaching, I'm going to get a Red Book too. I'll look for that ad and take advantage of that offer.
