I Came across these at a local garage sale. They are holding them for me. Price is $15. The lamps say Smith Victor
Is it good for taking coin photo's or over kill?

A fairly reasonable price if they have working bulbs in them. An they look about the correct height to stand on either side of a desk or table.

Price sounds good to me. If the light is too bright you can try different things to diffuse the light and cut down on glare.

Those tripods are useful at that price, especially since you can attach other lighting to them.

Those things are worth 15 bucks. If not for photography, use them when you're working in the garage or painting the living room. I say buy (or send me the address and I'll buy). Good find.
