Any Ike collectors? I've been searching about 100 Ikes that I have besides the upper end set I am working on. Does this look like a friendly eagle? Thanks! Edited by jprine 01/07/2010 9:59 pm

jprine....you're in luck! I've been cherry picking Friendly Eagles for some time now, and yes that is one!! Good find!! Do you have any pics of the entire coin? I'd love to see what condition yours is in.

Terror of Zanarkand-headed out of town for a couple of days. I will try to get a full pic when I return. The coin is in pretty good shape. I also have two that I think are Talon Heads. I will try to post those also, maybe you can help verify. Question-is the friendly eagle only on the 71D? Thanks!

jprine and AG, yes the Friendly Eagle is found on 1971-D coins only. I'll try to help with the talon heads as well.

TOZ-here are pics of the two that I think are talon heads. This first is much clearer, however, the second shows two different talons. Sorry about the second picture, it is not very good, but the best I could get. Thanks for the help-I am going to look closer at the rest of my Ikes over the weekend.

Jprine....I think luck is with you once again, they look like Talon Heads to me as well. Sorry it took me so long to respond.....worked some long hours this weekend. Check out Ikegroup.org, it's a GREAT resource for all things Ike dollar! It's been very helpful to me in my pursuit of Ike dollars of all varieties :)

Thanks for the info on the"friendly, and talon-head. I wasn't aware of either. I don't collect them, altho when one comes into my hand, it gets stowed. I do have a dull set of proof, and a small box with flips. might be 100 in all. I mostly go for the cent varieties. Lots of help there, thanks to Chuck, and his coppercoins.com site. Dick

Jprine, keep us posted on your progress with the Ikes....they're a great set, and they're a lot of fun. There's a lot of cherrypicking that can be done with Ikes. Now you have to find yourself the three 1972-P Types. Ikegroup has great pics of these, and you can find all three by cherrypicking if you know what to look for and are patient. Enjoy your new set!

Thanks for sharing the ikegroup. Never heard of this website. I guess I'd better go back and check all my 71-D before spending them on ice cream.

Stewart-found two more friendly's and two talons today while looking at some more Ikes that I honestly forgot I had. One of the talons is very weak, but it is there. Thanks for the info on the d/d's. That is all I need-another look at the Ikes. I already need to add a new page to my dansco for the talons and friendlys I found today.

Jprine, Glad to be of help. Finding these varieties has become a lot of fun. I have seen no other series of coins with so many new varieties being found. It is a very exciting time in my coin collecting for the past Two years that I have been studying the Eisenhower's. Just a plain old good time Stew
