I thought SLQ only were BU if they had a full head. This doesn't have it at all. Even if some major company would grade it, would they classify it as BU?

Most BU SLQs do not have a full head(FH) which is why coins with the FH descriptor sell for a premium. A full head is one sign of a fully struck coin just like the bell lines on a Franklin half the bands on Mercs and Roosies.

I might be wrong but I don't think it has to have a full head for it to be considered a BU, the full head designation is just a how sharp the strike was and if all the details came up during the strike, it could still be BU with a weak strike. Again someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Edit: Sorry biokemist6 we must have been posting at the same time.

Robert you are correct, the FH destination is just about strike, it has nothing to do with the coin being circulated or not

Looks uncirculated to me but I have to say some of this sellers coins bothers me. I know some people can manipulate pictures to make them look better than they actually do in hand, and some of this sellers coins if anyone anyone else had them the coins would be in a top TPG slab. here are a few examples http://cgi.ebay.com/1901-Barber-Hal...CE_W0QQitemZ290385216650QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item439c4ec48a and this http://cgi.ebay.com/1879-Trade-Doll...NG_W0QQitemZ270508555548QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item3efb90fd1c and even this one http://cgi.ebay.com/1874-Trade-Doll...RE_W0QQitemZ280445872901QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item414be06b05 . Now I want to add I have never purchased nor seen any coins from this seller in hand but when I see coin after coin that look like these and them not be any in slabs I ask myself why

Bryan,

Your suspicions are understandable ... all nice looking coins and not in slabs. This seller could make twice the hammer price with PCGS slabbed coins.

I did make one purchase from this seller, an 1878-P Morgan VAM 116A (not attributed). He advertised it as AU and it was as advertised.

If you are interested in reading about the strike qualities of SLQs, I recommend this article(it is a PDF file).

The photography is usually not very representative of the coin in hand. I have purchased several coins from these folks and while the coins are ok when received, most of the pictures make most of their coins look better than real life.

Buyer beware!

I agree with the comments about their photos. I recently purchased my first coin from them, a 49S fbl ms 64 Franklin. The coin was slabbed, so I knew what I was getting, but their photos looked much better than the slabbed coin when received. Oh yea, my ebay purchase of the franklin was about $40.00 cheaper than I could find anywhere else. That was my last coin to finish the set and I had been looking for awhile. I am happy with the coin.

Nice looking coin but I'm a little confused about the +++ after the BU? I would think this guy would have stated something like MS-65/66/67 etc.
So far there were 4 bidders when I looked so that means there are 4 people that want a +++ coin.

Doesn't seem like a bad coin but personally I would wait for a different one with more head detail.

Bryan may well be on to something there. While the seller has a good feedback score (99.9%), the negative feedback pretty much all refers to overgraded coins. Check it out:

I purchased a coin from these folks. To me, in my opinion, the actual coin did not appear like the photo.

BTW, thanks Saruma. With your link, I was able to figure out how to view just negative feedbacks for ebay sellers.
