"Model coins" were originally unofficial patterns; someone would get a brilliant idea for a new coin type or design, and go to a badge or button maker and make their own pattern coins as part of lobbying efforts to get the coin struck "for real". Some "model coins" (such as yours) were made as card-counter tokens when the token makers discovered that "model coins" appeared to be a loophole in British anti-counterfeiting laws they could exploit.

I believe this one would date from sometime between the 1840's and 1880's. Mildly collectable, but quite common; worth a couple of dollars. Do a Google search for exact phrase "prince of wales model sovereign" to find numerous examples for sale.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
